Another Motorcycle rider killed in Greater Cincinnati

Another motorcyclist was killed in greater Cincinnati Saturday may 26th , 2012 in Boone County. From early reports it appears that a Jeep was turning left onto  U.S. 42 from Rice Pike. Dylan Plvan was driving the Jeep and ran into a Camry traveling Northbound on U.S 42 driven by Kerissa Carter.

The Camry then skidded into the southbound lane of U.s. 42 striking the motorcylcist from Middletown killing him. Our condolences to the family that will never be the same.

Commentary

 This appears to be a negligently caused accident on behalf of the Jeep driver that failed  to yield the right of way. Although there are always many factors to be investigated.  The early report from the news is sketchy at best, but the police appear pretty clear on what happened.  Please if you witnessed the accident call the Boone county police. Motorcycle Safety Tips From Cincinnati Motorcycle Lawyer Anthony Castelli

As a motorcycle accident lawyer I watch for common themes on motorcycle accidents and look for safety tips to give to avoid those accidents. I put motorcycle accidents in two categories:

One of the recurring patterns for motorcyclists is that they loose control on curves. It is critical that when you go into a turn that you are traveling at a safe speed and you must avoid target fixation. Target fixation happens when you have gone a bit too fast and are not completing the turn you wanted to make and are heading for an object. Instead of looking where you want to go to avoid the accident motorcycle riders fixate on the target, which causes the motorcycle to drive directly into the target.

Cincinnati Motorcyclists Support Charity Events for Cancer So Put Your Prejudice Down and Come

Lady Riders Against Cancer

Cincinnati Motorcyclists , in particular this past Saturday, the Lady Riders  against Cancer  put on their 2nd annual poker run against cancer. These ladies have all been touched by some form or fashion of cancer. Several are two time cancer survivors. Some have lost their husbands to cancer or multiple family members.

The only requirement for membership is you are a lady and you have a motorcycle endorsement. But anyone can come out and support their events . Riders and non riders, men, women and children. All their events are non alcoholic. Even though the day started off overcast there were smiles and positive attitudes all around.

They were on Cincinnati Biker Life several weeks age where I interviewed them as guests to talk about their organization and fundraiser.  In addition to supporting efforts to eradicate cancer, they also volunteer at the Shriners burn institute.

      UPCOMING CINCINNATI MOTORCYCLE EVENTS

American Federation of Bikers 24th annual bike Blessing Sunday May 6th at American Legion Post 199 Harrison Ohio . This group is renowned for it's charitable contributions especially for children's causes.


The A.F.R, as they  like to call it, is a 501-c3 publicly funded charitable organization compiled of all types of motorcyclists, dedicated to helping needy, neglected, abused and handicapped children. They have no paid members or officers. Established in 1982, the A.F.R has helped thousands of children in the Tri-State Area.
They have provided medical grants to families with children in need of life-saving surgery or treatment. Annually, they adopt several families and provide them with Christmas dinner and gifts, sometimes Santa Claus even stops by! These families are chosen through local parishes and would normally not be financially able to have their own Christmas.
On a group basis, the A.F.R sponsors activities like Easter egg hunts and trips to the Zoo. They also do repairs at private and county funded centers for less fortunate children. In 1989, they started the A.F.R scholarship fund. High school students who are college bound may apply for this financial assistance through their school counselors.

They  also have another event scheduled for June 16th . It is their 31st annual poker run . this is one of the largest events in the midwest. It will be held at American Legion Post 199, Campbell Road, Harrison Ohio 45030 .

Richard Danied Strong Rest In Peace May 9th, 2008


We will remember Richard Daniel Strong next Saturday at 3 PM. Just nod your head in silent prayer that day. He was needlessly killed due to the neglect of Ohio Department of Transportation and Kokosing on I 75 Southbound mile marker 17 in a construction zone. I have ordered the road side cross but so far odot has not responded to our request to place one well of the road. If fact they no longer even have the mile marker 17 sign where his motorcycle crash and death occured,  they have one at 16.8. We will never forget him, nor will his family that grieves to this day and will never be the same .

Was Motorcycle Accident Death of Donald Herbst Failure To Yield

Donald Herbst from Camden was seriously injuried in a motorcycle crash in Milford Township at approximately 7 AM Wednesday morning has died. 

The Butler County Sheriff says emergency responders were called to the intersection of State Route 177 and Harris Road in Milford Township for a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck. The Butler county sheriff Deputies say 25 year old Donald Herbst was driving his Harley motorcycle southbound on State Route 177 when a pickup, driven by 17 year old Andrew Hensley of Milford Township, turned from Harris Road onto 177 and hit Herbst. 

Herbst, was air carried by Air Care to University Hospital in Cincinnati in an attempt to save his life. But it was to no avail.

As of yet. no charges have been filed. The crash remains under investigation by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) If you were a witness to this motorcycle accident please call the Butler County Sheriff .

A review of the area shows that stops signs controlled Harris road. Thus Andrew Hensley , if reports are accurate would be under a duty to yield the right of way . Another brother motorcyclist down . Another roadside cross for someone to order. Another family that will never be the same.



Commentary


When a car is on a stop street that intersects with a thru highway it has a duty to yield the right of way to traffic. Many times the car that unlawfully entered the intersection will claim that the other vehicle was speeding. I have questioned people in depositions and ask them why they would pull out in front of a car that they thought was speeding. Unfortunately people will not admit responsibility. However a thorough investigation by experienced accident investigators can use evidence at the scene to reconstruct the accident. It's imperative to get an experienced accident reconstruction engineer to review the evidence as soon as possible.

May Is Motorcycle Month Allstate Takes Advantage Cincinnati Attorney Anthony Castelli Says Don't Buy

As a  motorocycle accident lawyer in Cincinnati, Ohio for over 30 years  I am acutely aware of Allstate's activities. In a word, they fight tooth and nail and attempt to delay paying injury victims.
So if you are looking to protect yourself with uninsured/underinsured motorist benefits look at another insurance company. They are even hustling motorcylists with their latest promotion on Allstate's facebook page.

As I look back over 25 civil injury personal injury trials, several of them were against Allstate insurance since they offered meager settlements. Cincinnati Chrome Divas Golf Outing Promoted on Cincinnati biker Life

Cincinnati Biker Lawyer Supports the Chrome divas

The Cincinnati Chrome Divas, an all lady Cincinnati motorcycle group, are having a charity golf outing. Zan and Lisa Harris were recent guests on Cincinnati biker Life at the request of Cincinnati motorcycle accident lawyer Anthony Castelli. They talked about the upcoming event and the importance of the charity the proceeds would go to.

The pinkribbongirls.org will be the beneficiary of the proceeds of this years golf outing. This is the fourth annual golf outing and  is certain to be lots of fun. The event is Saturday April 28th at the Neumann golf course. This weekend is the cut off to sign up for the event . So you have about 48 hours to get in touch with the Cincinnati Chrome Divas . Cincinnati Motorcycle Lawyer Supports Bootsy Collins Charity Event For Tornado Victims

As a member of the Greater Cincinnati Motorcycle community I consider it an obligation to support charitable events. The Bootsy Collins foundation is putting on a fundraiser this Sunday, April 15th with proceeds going towards relief for the victims of the recent tornado .  Mathew 25 Ministries will distribute the proceeds. New Richmond Ohio was one of the communities hit especially hard by the tornado.

Motorcycle riders, bikers if you will, often get a bad rap. The truth is that motorcycle riders are big supporters of others less fortunate. Not only do they support their own motorcycle group charities , but  they support charitable causes of all kinds. I bet they come out in force to join with others in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky communities.

Several months ago many bikers attended the Cincinnati Center for Autism charity event. One of the bands was Prizoner, a local favorite at motorcycle events around Ohio.One of the  celebrities giving his time there was Bootsy Collins. I Crashed My Harley Davidson Motorcycle in Cincinnati and Am Hurt What Now

If you crash your Harley Davidson Motorcycle or any other motorcycle in Cincinnati, or any part of Ohio as a Cincinnati Ohio motorcycle accident lawyer that rides let me makes some suggestions.

This is true especially if you have internal injuries. Once you get out of the hospital follow up with your doctor on a regular basis and do not allow gaps in treatment.

Also document your injury with photographs.

                                        Getting Fairly Compensated For Your Motorcycle Injury

You can call youe own motorcycle insurance company and report the accident. Do not allow the wrongdoers INSURANCE COMPANY TO TAPE YOUR STATEMENT AS ONE MISSTATEMENT CAN BE USED AGAINST YOU.

Start a file and put everything about your accident in one place.

If you can not work inform your employer and provie them with a doctor's excuse and keep your own copy.

Do not allow there to be gaps in your medical treatment.

Follow your doctor's advice.

The American Motorcycle Rally Founder Comes To Cincinnati Biker Life Radio Show

The American Motorcycle Rally founder Jimmy Huffman was recently interviewed live by Cincinnati Motorcycle Accidnent Lawyer Anthony Castelli on his Cincinnati Biker Life Radio show on WAIF FM Cincinnati. The American Motorcycle rally is in its inaugural year.

The rally will encompass a 7000 mile trek around the United States, over nine days. The ride will test a motorcycle rider's endurance and stamina as well as their ability to plan and follow direction and respond to the directions to get to the next stop as well as pick up much needed points along the way.

Jimmy Huffman along with partner Greg Sarff came up with this idea after riding in many Iron Butt challenges and finding that many were not well organized or missed important points or just did not pay off as advertised. Jimmy and Greg , out of Columbus, Ohio (Jimmy is a former 10 year cop in Columbus) wanted to put on an endurance motorcycle run that would have all the best stuff they learned about these events.

They also wanted to help out a charity and money from the event,  besides going to the riders will also go to Charity. The charity recently chosen was Nationwide Children's hospital.   This hospital has been reported by US News and World Report's as America's best childrens's hospitals.

I questioned Jimmy extensively for over 60 minutes on how how they were going to pull this off. He said sponsors had already covered up to $250,000 in prize money and

prizes. He looked me in the eye the whole time and never flinched. Having started at the beginning of the year they have already come a long way.

Motorcycle Music Pat Savage Comes To Cincinnati

As the creator of Cincinnati Biker Life Radio show, host ,  motorcycle rider and motorcycle injury lawyer I've gotten to meet a lot of cool motorcyclists from all walks of life. The latest is Pat "Doc" Savage. We tried to bring Pat Savage to Cincinnati on Cincinnati Biker Life .

Unfortunately Pat could not negotiate through the phone lines from Thailand to Cincinnati. However we got to "talk" with him through the medium of facebook on the Cincinnati Biker life facebook page. And we played 5 songs off his new CD Wind and Fire. The title cut is my favorite song

Cincinnati Lawyer Challenges Eric Deters at Autism Rocks 3

The Cincinnati Center for Autism is holding a big fund raising event Sunday February 12, 2012. There are going to be over 50 celebrities including former Cincinnati Red Lee May, Former Cincinnati Bengal Ickey Woods, and Pro wrestling super star Sean Casey. You get to mingle with all these stars. So bring your camera and something for them to autograph. That's why they are there. One of the celebrities was listed at Eric "the Bulldog" Deters. That got me to thinking since I have a radio show on www.waif883.org called Cincinnati Biker Life on Thursday evening at 8, since I'm also a lawyer, that it was time for Eric Deters and myself to wrestle for charity. Especially if we could get Sean Casey to be  the special referee.

So I threw down a challenge to Eric Deters on his facebook page. Here's what I said:

                          I challenge Eric Deters to a wrestling match at Autism Rocks 3.......Rockin for Autism with Sean Casey to be the special referee. Loser donates $250 to Cincinnati Center for Autism or has to leave town .Eric i'm a better lawyer, radio host and wrestler than you . Time to throw down Chihuahua I mean Bulldog. In fact I'll wrestle you and Bill Cunningham in a handicap match. it's for a great cause.


 It did not take long for him to reply:


       " My fighting days are over I'm becoming old and decrepit. Well so much for the bulldog.


I now turning my attention to Bill Cunningham. I'm not sure if Bill was invited or not but I'm daring him as  I called out the Bulldog to wrestle me one round and if I lose I'll donate $250 to the Cincinnati center for autism.


Of course this is all for laughs and to publicize and support the Cincinnati Center For Autism . They are working miracles with these children everyday. What CCA does is not for laughs, it's for real. They allow these autistic  children and theirr parents a much greater quality of life, by the hard work they do with these children.

Cincinnati Motorcycle Community Events Active even In Winter

The Cincinnati motorcycle community keeps active even in winter, Just today the Iron Samaritans held a polar bear ride. I hope everyone had a a great time.

 Cyclefest cincinnati passed through here in November down at the convention center. The sons of anarchy were freatured as well as many local bike builders like donny Loos and also my friends from Cycleworks.

Comin up soon is a meeting of all the biker groups that care to participate in organizing their events so they all don't fall on the same day in the summer.

The Hoka Hey riders led by our local favorite Curtis Belcher was an amazing call in show that night with riders from all over the country calling in including the first place finisher the last two years..

Hoka Hey Motorcycle Riders Their Story On Cincinnati Biker Life

As a Cincinnati Motorcycle rider , motorcycle lawyer and programmer for the radio show Cincinnati Biker Life it was a great honor to do a show on the Hoka Hey Challenge . What the hey is the Hoka Hey you may ask. Many seasoned motorcycle riders have not even heard of the Hoka Hey.

I thank Jimmy Kay of Two Wheel Thunder TV for turning me on to the Hoka Hey and a local rider from Greater Cincinnati Curtis Belcher. A 50 year old postal worker and Free Mason. I learned from Jimmy that the Hoka Hey is the longest motorcycle challenge in the world. Last year the ride went from Florida to Alsaka.

This year the ride was close to 14,000 miles. It started in Phoenix and ended in Nova Scotia. Will Barclay was the winner both years. Last year the first place price was $500,000 and Will pocketed the money. This year although Will was the first one to finish no winner has been declared. There is plenty of controversy surrounding this. But the essence of the ride remains pure and the Spirit of the ride transcends any controversy.

Last night on Cincinnati Biker Life we had the Hoka Hey call in. Hoka Hey Riders from all over the country called into WAIF Cincinnati studio to tell a little of their story. I started taking calls live at 8:28 PM and the last one ended at 9:58 PM.

The callers included Blacky, a 58 year old former Texas game warden that finished this years ride, as well as Will Barclay who collects adventures and did not even reveal his status as first place finisher both years. Junie Rose rider extraordinary crashed and got back up and finished this year. She's trying to get blankets to give to the Sioux. please give her a hand

This is what Barclay wrote on his first year experience:

The Hoka Hey, with all its imperfection, was a breath of fresh air in a world where destructive political correctness and unrealistic expectations and blaming others has become almost universal. As I rode it I was surprised and pleased to see that there are great swaths of North America, even in the lower 48 where there is still abundant wildlife and green space. Where people still socialize from their front porch instead of watching TV. The overwhelming majority of the riders, (though not all) especially those who stuck it out, cherish the experience and want to do it again. Don’t take my word for it. Ask Mark Storey, the rider from Australia who finished second. Ask Ben Hudak who suffered a terrible accident in Canada and came on to Homer in a truck to be with the other challengers. Ask Alex Hood from Colorado who was badly injured in an accident in Arizona and who is signed up to ride again this year. Ask Greg Darby from Florida who used the Hoka Hey to raise many thousands of dollars for lieukemia. Ask them to give up their coins. Read the rider’s stories and blog comments in their own words on the hokaheychallenge.com website. No one fooled these people and they are not conspirators. They are teachers and police officers and retirees and middle managers and students and day laborers who had the experience of a lifetime. An experience they could not have duplicated on their own.

Junie says a big part is raising the consciousness of the plight of the American Indians especially the Lakota. Here's an exerpt from Wikepedia about the Hoka Hey:

The inaugural 2010 challenge took participants along a mandatory route on back roads across the United States and Canada. The route scrossed numerous mountain ranges, 33 Indian reservations, 25 national forests, eight deserts and six national parks. Challenge routes travel secondary roads with directions revealed at a series of specific checkpoints. The event guidelines prohibit speeding and require contenders to sleep outside throughout the entire course.

Many of the riders talked about the sleep deprivation and the sprituality they experienced as well as the bond between riders which was evident from all the callers many names I just can't recall.  Here's two video's that give some flesh to the experience though I would not profess to even be close to the experience having just talked to those who did.
